About Us

When we became parents, we noticed a huge problem.

Most medical research is about white people- and it doesn’t always extrapolate across culture. India, despite being a huge percent of the world’s population, didn’t have much specific research. There was no space in India where parents could get good, science based advice, that acknowledged India’s unique culture, challenges, and history.

So, Raising Indian Kids was born. We deep dive into parenting science, talk to local experts, and develop strategies for Indian parents- including ourselves- to manage our kids as best as we can. Parenting doesn’t come with a guide book, and we hope this site gives you the knowledge to make choices for your family, and skip the gyan.

Paula (BSc Psychology)

I moved to India from NZ in 2016. When I had my son in 2020, I saw that western ways simply don’t always work here; they aren’t optimal and often can cause big problems. I realised I needed more information, a strong network of local mothers to support and offer local advice, and Raising Indian Kids was born.

With a BSc in Psychology with a strong interest in neuroscience and biology, I’ve always been interested in the whats and whys. Like my toddler likes to ask (about 1,00,000 times a day), why does this happen? Why do we do this in response? Is this the best way? What can we do better?
